Life Updates
Cause even I need another break.
I am back, albeit with the briefest and slimmest newsletter of my life. I am currently in Venice for the opening of the Biennale with some of my close friends, so I am time-poor but culturally rich. However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on a long-form piece about mentoring across differences.
I started reflecting on this topic when I realized mentoring can be so mid. It is also a site for exploration and reification of otherness. And that got me thinking, why? You guessed it: power and positionality. It is always about asymmetrical power structures and how these can unknowingly become a big mess in the wrong hands. Anyway, I am getting ahead of myself. More on that next week.
In the meantime, stay hydrated and maybe check out a gallery or two.
Also, I have already seen the Biennale, and I have a lot of thoughts, especially with the theme being Foreigners Everywhere…. A special issue is pending.

📚 Who Can You Trust? How Technology Brought Us Together and Why It Might Drive Us Apart - Rachel BotsmanMislaid in Parts Half-Known - Seanan McGuire
I am currently listening to the e-book, and so far, it is a juicy romp through time, retelling how we build, understand, and reshape trust in a digital economy.
📹 La Chimera
What did I watch? No, honestly, what did I watch? La Chimera is a beautiful piece of magical realism with fragmented narrative threads cobbled together as a Renaissance sculpture. I will say no more about this film as it is best watched with intrigue and openness.
🎧 Utada Hikaru - Travelling
Utada is one of my favourite artists and, in the spirit of her first greatest hits being released and the re-recording of Travelling, it is genreless dance time. Another all-around D.J/Producer and legend, Taku, produced the new recording. Together, they managed to do something fresh but familiar. Utada asks, wanna go for a ride. I say, what took you so long?
